What is the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme?

In response to rising energy costs due to the Russia/Ukraine Crisis, the Irish government has
introduced the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme in 2022. The scheme provides a cash
payment to businesses of 40% of their increased energy bill.

How long will the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme run for?

The scheme will run from 1 st of September until the 31 st of December 2022 but may be extended to
28th of February 2022.

What businesses qualify for the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme?

Businesses must be CASE I trading businesses, For example:

• beauty salons
• cafés and restaurants
• crèches
• farmers
• hairdressers
• hotels
• insurance brokers
• manufacturers
• nursing homes
• pubs
• restaurants
• retailers
• stockbrokers
• travel agents

What are the conditions to qualify for the TBESS?

The business must have suffered an increase of 50% in the electrical unit cost and be tax compliant.

Can you show an example?

In the period 1st to the 31st of October 2021 Hawkers limited had a unit cost of 0.15 per kwh
In the same period in 2022 this had increased to 0.25kwh
This is a 67% increase so over the 50% threshold.

How much is the grant Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme for?

The grant is for 40% of the increased cost.

How do I apply?

The application should be made on ROS revenue online’s system.
